New resource file to support children with special educational needs available in Irish

Education Minister John O’Dowd has welcomed the publication of a resource file to support children with special educational needs (SEN) in Irish-medium schools. The resource, which contains a range of strategies and techniques to assist in addressing barriers to learning, has been developed as part of the SEN Capacity Building programme, which has been ongoing since 2011. The programme is in response to requests from practitioners for opportunities to improve their understanding of how best to support children with SEN. The Minister said: “This is a very valuable resource because it provides a common framework for use by teachers and support staff across the education sector. “The resource shares examples of good practice in the classroom to assist children with SEN and those who find learning difficult. “This resource will assist teachers to engage and motivate children with SEN and enable them to learn and make progress in reaching their full potential. I welcome the extension of the programme to the Irish-medium sector.”
