Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta (CnaG), the representative body for Irish-medium education in the North, will hold its sixteenth Annual Conference on March 16th, 2017 in An Carn, Maghera.

This is one of the largest educational conferences in Ireland, and will attract delegates from Irish-medium schools North and South, and from Irish language, educational and cultural bodies throughout the country.

The Conference is being held outside Belfast again this year and Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta is very grateful to the community of An Carn in Carntogher, Maghera for hosting the Conference again. Carntogher is a community well-known throughout the country for their dedication in promoting Irish language and culture.

Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta is delighted that Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, MLA will officially open this year’s Conference. Máirtín has a long association with the Irish language and Irish-medium Education; CnaG is grateful to Máirtín for finding the time to be with us on the day.

Speaking ahead of this year’s Conference, Liam Ó Flannagáin, acting CEO of Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta stated he was sure that they would all receive a warm welcome in Carntogher, for this special occasion.

A wide range of speakers will contribute to the Conference this year on various subjects, including the Irish-medium experience of the Nurture approach; new electronic resources for Irish-medium education and practitioners from within the IM sector will feature prominently in the this year’s Conference. Feargal Mac Bhloscaidh from Coláiste Feirste will present on Extended Writing and Seán Fennel from Gaelscoil na bhFál will give a workshop on Language Support at Keystage 2. Also, Tracey McGovern from the Middletown Centre for Autism will address some of the pressing questions around SEN, and two newly-formed IM SEN cluster-groups will lead a session for IM SENCOs.

A wide range of exhibitors will be in attendance on the day including Irish language publishers, book sellers, Irish language software producers etc.

Please note that the Conference begins at 9.30 a.m. and prior registration is essential.
