CnaG welcomes the Education Minister’s visit to Gaelscoil Aodha Rua

Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta (CnaG) welcomes Education Minister Paul Givan’s visit yesterday (6 March) to Gaelscoil Aodha Rua, Dungannon in the first few weeks of his new role.

As the representative body for Irish-medium education, CnaG is delighted that the Minister paid a visit Gaelscoil Aodha Rua, a vibrant and growing provider of high-quality Irish-medium education in the mid-Ulster area. During his visit, the Minister had the opportunity to witness first-hand the benefits of immersion education and the holistic ethos attributed to the sector.

CnaG is particularly encouraged by the Minister’s statement that he and his Department will be advocates for all children in all sectors, including Irish-medium.

Commenting on the visit, Maria Thomasson CEO of CnaG said, ‘We look forward to working proactively with the Minister in the coming years to address some of the significant issues facing the sector including, but not limited to, inadequate accommodation, teacher supply and retention and the provision of linguistically appropriate support for IM pupils with additional needs.’

CnaG congratulates the staff, governors and pupils of Gaelscoil Aodha Rua on extending such a warm welcome to the Minister and for making his first official visit to an Irish-medium school such an enjoyable, informative and memorable experience.
